After studying at an acting school in Los Angeles, Hungani Ndlovu took the soapie world by storm when he first appeared on e.tv’s Scandal earlier this year. Ndlovu plays Romeo, an 18-year-old who has returned home from six months of anger management therapy. The character grew up with a single mum who spoilt him; he is a bad boy who did not matriculate and his mother Grace gets him a tutor to ensure he passes this time. Now he is proving to be a bad influence on innocent Lindiwe, one of Grace’s employees at her hotel business.
Ndlovu, 22, is an actor, dancer, choreographer and presenter. He comes from a family of four and was born in Nelspruit. He moved to Polokwane when he was 4, and then to Johannesburg when he was 13.
He describes himself as a “chilled and relaxed guy” and a “lover of creating moments to remember”.
He started dancing at a young age but began to take it seriously in 2008. He joined his high school’s hip hop club and began acting in 2011. After graduating from an acting school in California, he was given a 12-month working permit in the US. He decided to spent six months in Los Angeles and another six
months in New York City, going to auditions and trying to get an agent.
Ndlovu is training to be a photographer and is the founder of Sans Group – a company that trains, educates and builds artists. When asked how he interacts with adoring fans, he said, “I respond to fans as often as I can. Male or female, I treat them the same.” ● Scandal screens at 7.30pm on weekdays on e.tv.
