Hungani Ndlovu’s #ShowmaxAddiction

April 28, 2017

One of South Africa’s rising young stars – and one of the sweetest celebs we know – tells us about his TV habits and his #ShowmaxAddiction.

What are you working on at the moment that you’re excited about?
I am currently shooting on e.tv Scandal!, I play this teenage character called Romeo, he’s quite a handful to deal with. I am also teaching an acting class at Sans Group in Maboneng.

What made you decide to get into television in the first place? And what was your first TV role?
I wanted to try something new and challenge myself. I had done a few theatre productions (full-length plays, one-act plays, etc) and short films, so when the opportunity to work on television came I took with both hands. The role I am currently shooting, as Romeo on e.tv Scandal! is my first one!

What are you watching on Showmax?
Ballers, Superstore, The Good Wife… the list goes on and on, I wouldn’t want to bore you.

What classic series do you rewatch over and over, and why?
Not sure about series, but I do re-watch Eddie Murphy movies, Jim Carrey movies, Denzel Washington movies … I prefer classic movies to series, I guess.

Who are some of your film or television heroes right now?
Charlize Theron, Meryl Streep and Denzel Washington.

What’s one movie you think every one should watch?
Fences, starring Denzel Washington and Viola Davis. It’s a beautiful story, with unexpected twists and turns. It took my breath away and I didn’t want it to end. It’s amazing!

What do you like about internet TV?
I enjoy the quick access to information and entertainment. I can check the news really quick to know what’s going on and immediately afterwards, in just a matter of seconds, be watching my favourite TV show.

What’s your favourite TV genre and why?
Suspense/Action/Drama – if that could be one genre, “Susp-act-ama”, it would be my favourite. I enjoy action a lot because I do stunts as well and I enjoy not being able to tell what’s going to happen, and, of course, I love drama because, well … it’s drama!
